Holly Humphries (1999) makes works about desire and the desire to devour. Her paintings analyse the parallels of our literal, visceral, sensual selves, to food and its shiny, pleasing features. Painting in sharp, thick and thin layers and varying hot red hues she tempts feelings of lust and the strong passion to squeeze. Curvaceous, abstract shapes and outlines merge often into figurative details of fruit, suggestive of feminine bodies and plastic material.
